Syria's Tehran envoy: We're at war with Tel Aviv

Speaking in conference held in Iranian capital, Hamed Hassan says Syria is 'at war with the axis of evil whose centers are in Tel Aviv and Washington'

"Syria is at war with the axis of evil whose centers are in Tel Aviv and in Washington," Syria's Ambassador to Iran Hamed Hassan said Monday.

Speaking at a Tehran conference titled "Syria – the First Line of Resistance," Hassan blamed the United States and Israel for backing opposition forces trying to topple Syrian President Bashar Assad, and announced that several other nations, such as Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, have joined forces with the West.
"Many terrorists infiltrate Syria via the Turkish border," Iran's Fars news agency quoted him as saying. He also warned that Ankara's policies were threatening Syria's security.

Hassan argued that the Syrian regime has fallen prey to a plot against both Damascus and the Syrian people, "Because Syria has always opposed America and the Zionists," he said, referring to the regime's support of the Hamas and Hezbollah terror groups.

As for al-Qaeda, "They are one of Islam's biggest enemies," he said.

He reiterated Syria's UN Ambassador Bashar Ja'afari's claim, made to the UN Security Council on Saturday, that Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia were "harboring, funding and arming the armed terrorist groups."

"Turkey has established within its territory military operations centers that are run by the intelligence services of Israel, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Qatar," Ja'afari wrote in a letter to the UNSC.

Ja'afari urged the UN to interfere on Syria's behalf.   Ynet
